Las Vegas, Bidding The Iconic Rivera Hotel A Fond Farewell

Message Sent “ Thank You For 60 Wonderful Years! ” signage message received.

Today, Las Vegas wins and looses. This signage message marks the  end of an era. Although with every end is a new beginning,  The finality is a rough reality. Today, I am paying tribute to the message, from the hotel sign. Tomorrow, I will look to the future and reminisce about the past.
Many years ago I passively watched the demolition of another Las Vegas landmark Hotel, The Dunes. The event was broadcast on live television. It was surreal. The implosion of the building was like a cloud of fireworks, somehow even then I was sad to watch it. According to Vegas.com, it happened on Nov. 26, 1996 and was replaced by the Venetian Resort Hotel. “The Venetian resort, the $1.8 billion hotel-casino which – with its reproduction of Venice’s canals and streets – now occupies most of the former Sands’ property”.  from Vegas.com
